Educational Cavitation Tunnels
We have a range of small Cavitation Tunnels developed from the Kempf and Remmers designs for use in the laboratories of Technical Universities. These tunnels can be used for cavitation tests with models of ship propellers and for tests with various profiles in cavitating and non-cavitating conditions.
We have a range of small Cavitation Tunnels developed from the Kempf and Remmers designs for use in the laboratories of Technical Universities. These tunnels can be used for cavitation tests with models of ship propellers and for tests with various profiles in cavitating and non-cavitating conditions.
The Tunnels are manufactured from high grade materials to resist corrosion and fouling.
Each of our Educational Range of Tunnels is supplied with optional control and data-acquisition systems. The data acquisition system interface is based on National Instruments Front End for development with Labview.
Unlike the K14 type, the K23 has the additional feature of having interchangeable measuring sections allowing it to be altered to suit different test conditions and arrangements.
Although these are small cavitation tunnels, they still require a reasonably sized building. Depending on the customers’ requirements and space available they can be supplied with an additional vertical section to increase the height. Alternatively medium and large research grade tunnels are available.
There is a full range of equipment available to compliment these facilities including;
Open-water propeller dynamometers, force and moment balances, wake rakes and pitot static Prandtl probes. Please see the list on the adjacent page.
Within the standard K14 and the K23 square sections we would recommend the use of the R33E or R73E Open water propeller dynamometer that can be mounted either down-stream of the flow in the traditional open water mode, or upstream of the flow where it can be installed with wake screens to simulate the wake of the hull.
We would also recommend the use of one of our various balances such as the R30 or R37 that can be used for testing hydrofoils and appendages. These can also be used in conjunction with the R33E or R73E mentioned previously, where it is possible to study propeller and rudders together.
We can provide specially designed propeller dynamometers for use in the K23 asymmetric section such as the H29-27 Open water dynamometer & R45B-04 Ship model propulsion dynamometer. Please contact us for further information.
