High Performance Pressure Sensor – 5m Water Gauge (Flush Diaphragm)
The high performance pressure sensors are ideally suited for measurements in hydraulic models.
This high performance pressure is designed for 2m water gauges. Mounted with a flush diaphragm, this pressure sensor is suitable to measure impact pressures on structures. If you would like to measure water depth and wave pressure under rubble mounds or pressure in pipes and other vessels, high pressure sensors threaded with a protective nose cone are better fit for these purposes.

Diaphragm and cables
The all welded diaphragm and body are manufactured from 316 stainless steel.
The sensors are supplied with a 10m length of vented cable, which has an internal vent tube and strainer wire. Alternative cable lengths can be ordered on request.
Digital display unit option
The user can choose to purchase their pressure sensors equipped with a digital display unit, which shows pressure in a range of parameters.

The water level float gauge uses a float which moves up and down a displacement transducer to measure slowly changing water levels, typically in flumes or 3D basins. The water level is determined by accurately measuring the distance from the head of the transducer to the magnetic field produced by a magnet mounted inside the float. The advantage of this method is that there is no contact, and therefore no friction, between the float and the transducer.
The transducer consists of a 10mm diameter stainless steel tube, which contains a stretched magnetostrictive wire. The tube is welded to a stainless steel head which contains all the electronics for the transducer.

The multi-element wavemaker is used to create long and short crested waves for either deep or shallow water.
Piston type wavemakers
HR Wallingford’s piston-type multi-element wavemakers are made up from a number of self contained eight-paddle modules. This enables them to be easily installed, moved to different positions within the basin and to be extended as required.
These wavemakers are predominantly used in shallow water applications of up to 1m depth.
Hinge type wavemakers
HR Wallingford also supplies wavemakers for deep water basins and towing tanks. These hinge type paddles are again supplied in modular frames, each with four paddles that are fixed to the inside of the basin. The design of the hinge wavemaker support frame is such that it can be incorporated into basins and towing tanks with a two point fixing system that allows the modules to be removed for periodic maintenance.
Paddle drive system
Paddle width varies from 0.5-0.75m depending upon the client’s requirements. All paddles are of a wet-back design which means that there are no complicated seals between paddles or the basin walls and the floor. The paddles are mounted on linear slide assemblies that are supported from a common framework for the piston paddles. This leaves all motors, bearings and precision components well above the water level.

Each wavemaker is custom-built to meet the client’s requirements and is equipped with HR Wallingford’s Active Wave Absorption System. Installation is straightforward with HR Wallingford providing commissioning, training and on-going support.
