Suspension Cable

Suspension Cable, this equipment is used for studying the inter-action between suspension cables and load measuring supports with uniform or non-uniform distributed load on the catenary cable.

Description

This equipment is used for studying the inter-action between suspension cables and load measuring supports with uniform or non-uniform distributed load on the catenary cable. It is to be used with ST300 Universal Structural Frame (separately supplied).

A light roller chain (the cable) is held by two sprocket pulleys and a spring balance is connected to each end of the roller chain. Weight hangers are evenly placed along the roller chain whose length simulates a parabolic curve. Weights can be put on the load hangers to create symmetrical and non-symmetrical cable.

Instruction manual is also included.

TYPICAL EXPERIMENTS
  • Analysis using catenary and parabola theory
  • Cable weight and tension
  • Comparison of a symmetrical cable and catenary
  • Unsymmetrical cable A point load on a suspension cable
