Tension Coefficients

The equipment demonstrates the use of tension coefficients in resolving three dimensional forces. It is to be used with ST300 Universal Structural Frame (separately supplied).

A space frame is constructed from two tension members and one compression member. Each member has a built-in spring balance. The three members are joined together at an apex where a load is suspended. The other end of the compression member is a ball joint fixed to the bed and the other ends of the tension members have chains for attachment to two stationary columns. All joints can be slightly swiveled to minimize fixing moment. Resulting force for each member is measured by a three dimensions co-ordinate scale.

Instruction manual is also included.

TYPICAL EXPERIMENTS
  • Calculation of the forces induced, using the method of tension coefficients
  • Determination of the forces induced in individual frame members
  • Comparison of experimental and theoretical results
