Flow Through an Orifice
This flow study equipment allows measurement of contraction and velocity coefficients, as well as discharge coefficient for an orifice discharge. It is to be used with Hydraulics Bench i.e. HB100 or HB100N (separately supplied).
It consists of a removable clear acrylic cylinder with adjustable constant head. Water is admitted to the cylinder via a discharge head. An adjustable overflow allows various constant heads for the test. An orifice is fitted at the bottom of the cylinder flush with the base plate. A traverse assembly is provided below the cylinder. Attached to this assembly is a wire and a pitot tube. The wire is to measure the jet diameter hence the vena contracta diameter and the pitot tube is to measure the jet velocity. The velocity head on pitot tube and total head due to tank water level are indicated on manometer tubes. The apparatus rests on adjustable footings and a bull’s eye level is provided.

Free and Forced Vortex: Rotating Paddle
This equipment is designed to produce and measure free and forced vortices. It is to be used with Hydraulics Bench i.e. HB100 or HB100N (separately supplied).
The equipment consists of a clear acrylic cylinder on a plinth. The free vortex is generated by water discharging
through an interchangeable orifice at the base of the cylinder and the resulting profile is measured by a combined caliper and depth scale. The forced vortex is generated by a paddle at the base of the cylinder which is rotated by jets of water, and the profile is measured by a series of depth gauges. The velocity at any point in the free and forced vortices may be measured using a pitot tube.TYPICAL EXPERIMENTS- Determination of the surface profile of a free and forced vortices Determination of velocity

Free and Forced Vortex: Rotating Tank
This equipment is designed to produce and measure free and forced vortices. It is to be used with Hydraulics Bench i.e. HB100 or HB100N (separately supplied).
The equipment consists of a clear acrylic cylindrical tank inside which is another smaller perforated clear acrylic cylinder. The tank is rotated by a small motor. A small hole is provided at the center of the bottom of the tank. A forced vortex is formed when a fixed amount of water is contained in the rotating vessel. A free vortex is formed when water is admitted at the annulus and drain through the bottom hole. A cross bar with scale and a sliding probe holder are provided above the vessel. Water surface profile is measured by a depth probe attached to the cross bar. A transparent tube with built-in pitot probe to measure total head is also attached to the cross bar.

Impact of a Jet
This equipment provides measurement of force developed by a water jet on different stationary targets. It is to be used with Hydraulics Bench i.e. HB100 or HB100N (separately supplied).
The equipment consists of a removable clear acrylic cylinder. Water is supplied through a tube at the bottom of the cylinder and discharged vertically through a nozzle onto a target plate. Each plate maintains the same working distance from the nozzle. A clear acrylic guard is provided to prevent water jet from splashing on the target. Force on the plate pushes its stem upward. Dead weight is then applied on the stem to counter balance the force exerted by the water jet. This balance is indicated by a pointer on a steel rod next to the weight. The apparatus rests on adjustable footings and a bull’s eye level is provided.
